We've had a number of inquiries about whether the water in the pond is safe for swimming.  As far as we know, there has been only one period when the test came back with a bacteria count large enough so the public beach had to be closed.  The last two tests have been within acceptable limits, according to Mert Leonard, who does the testing at the beach.

There has been concern about the other two sections of the pond, and while the Town of Danville is not required to test beyond the beach area, Mert is testing the water today and will have the report back on Friday.  Mert posted a comment today, which will explain.  If anyone has questions, please feel free to post it or any comments you may have there.  As Mert said, he will post the results of today's test on the comments page, and we will be sure he is aware of any comments or information you leave there.

The big flock of geese are still in residence - hanging out on various lawns around the pond.  However, we have not been able to find out whether it was the geese or some other contaminant that caused the spike in the bacteria count.  As I understand it, the people who oversee the beach and the Town of Danville are working on that.  This may be a part of what Mert will be testing in the second and third ponds today.  As soon as we know more, we'll let everyone know.

We went for lunch at the new Positive Pie in Hardwick today.  We had a great time.  The place is very nice - large open kitchen area with the big brick oven, a long bar and plenty of table space.  Bob, Fred and I had pizza, which was very good; and Theresa had a big green salad she said was very good with a spicy fruity dressing she particularly liked.  As usual in these places, the array of possibilities for beer is astounding - lots of more or less local labels as well as the names we old timers know.   They haven't been open long at their Hardwick location, but have been in Plainfield for a while.  We were surprised that there were so many people around.  There seemed to be a steady flow of customers coming and going.  The atmosphere is great - however, the music was turned up a tad too high for my comfort, but we still all enjoyed our lunch.  We didn't take pictures - there were too many people around and we didn't want to intrude on anyone's privacy.  You'll find the restaurant right at the intersection with Route 14.

I started this a couple days ago but got kind of busy and never got back to it. I had posted about the Route 2 construction, but that notice...
