We've had a raw day with a drizzly rain off and on all day. Temperatures ranged in 50's, and while we didn't get a lot of rain, in other places they did. Our turn may come tonight. Lake Champlain went down a little, but they are expecting over the next couple of days it will go back up and reach even higher levels. Roads are being washed out and lots of damage around the lake.

Here people are drifting back and finding some things missing, other things soggy, and I expect they'll find some articles that don't belong to them lodged on their waterfronts in some cases. We'll eventually get everything sorted out, I'm sure.

We went to Cabot to vote this morning. We will have two new select board members now. I should be hearing from Will Walters soon who won, and will post the results here. The voting wasn't expected to be very heavy - this wasn't a high interest contest. It's amazing that four people announced for the two positions. I bet you never knew there is an "Official Ballot Stuffer Stick" that is used to tamp the ballots down in the boxes if there's heavy voting. That's one of the JP's, Bonnie Dannenberg, at the registration table, and Erma Perry holding the stick for Fred to photograph.

I have to say, the road to Cabot over the Plain is still muddy and very rough - like W. Shore Road and countless others in surrounding towns. I thought Brickett's Crossing Road would be better and suggested to Diane (we rode with Bill and Diane Rossi) that might be a better route to take on the way home, but it turned out to be just as bad - it had deteriorated since Fred and I had been over it about a week ago. The rain for the next few days should take the remainder of the frost out and perhaps the roads will settle and then can be worked if they dry out a bit.

We stopped at Harry's Hardware Store and saw Julie and Walt Ackermann. It's always a friendly place to visit. It was around 10:30 a.m. - too late for breakfast, too early for lunch, so we didn't eat there. This is Bill and Diane deciding what kind of rope they wanted to buy. Then Julie measured it - well, you can see the process here: Buying Rope at Harry's Hardware

This afternoon I began sorting through Ice-Out papers, putting things away and filing records. Homer Fitts gave me a big box of papers on Ice Out that he has kept since the beginning, and I'm hoping to have everything in protective sleeves and available for people to look at, if they wish. I already have a big book of clippings on various aspects of Joe's Pond Association activities, but now I'm thinking I'll pull everything on the Ice-Out together into one album because there's so much of it. Each clipping gives certain details of the contest that particular year, and it's fun to peruse.

The election results are just in. Dan Dunham (1 year) and Allan Perry (2 years) are our two new select board members. Congratulations to them.
Total Votes:178 1 Year Seat: Dan Dunham 116 Jackie Folsom 58 2 Year Seat: Allan Perry 91 Judy Pransky 84 Next Select Board meeting Thursday, May 5, 7.p.m.
