Good morning Jane...
This is just to let everyone know that there is a juvenile loon frozen
into the first pond. Ray has a call in to Eric and has spoken to VINS to
report this and they will decide how to proceed. (Just letting you know
so that the readers that see it don't need to call to report it to us
anyway, we are aware of it)... The course of action can be varied... the
ice is no doubt too thin to walk out onto, so there may be a 'waiting
time' that the loon will be allowed to freeze into the ice further. They
are fine for quite some time if frozen in... so folks should not worry
about the loon if that is the case. When the ice is thick enough the
rescuers will cut the ice away from the loon and pull him/her free. It
will no doubt be examined to see if it is injured and then decide if it
can be released to either the Connecticut River or to Caspian (which is
still open)...
We have gotten many calls so far this morning and wish to thank everyone
for their concern...
We will keep you posted...
Blessings, Evelyn (and Ray)
Another casualty of the early winter weather. Thanks, Evelyn, for letting us know.
