We went to Juniper's for dinner with a friend tonight. We always enjoy going there - the view is lovely and we like the people at the inn. There were even other Joe's Pond people there. We took lots of pictures and I've put together a slide show for you. Before we went inside, we looked at the Children's Barn - a great spot for the kids to entertain themselves. There is even a sort-of tree house near the barn, and of course real horses for riding in the stable at the far end of the parking lot. There's also a bike trail across the road. The weather looked a little doubtful when we arrived, but it soon cleared, as you can see, and we watched a hot-air balloon pass overhead.
We were there at six, and there were very few people, but by time we left, it was quite busy. When we got back to Lyndonville there was a band concert on the green, so we stopped there for a little while - and took more pictures. Here's the slide show: An Evening at Juniper's
By the way, we really need to find someone to take over the lay monitoring duties at the pond. Jamie Dimick has done it for several years and is "retiring" from the job, and he is hoping to find someone who can go with him the last couple of times this summer to get a feel for what he has to do. Then the folks at the State Water Resources Dept. will do some training next spring. Jamie said it isn't at all difficult, and it really doesn't take much time at all, but it's best if someone right on the pond can do it - although that isn't absolutely necessary, either. He has enjoyed keeping track of the clarity of the water, watching it change with the seasons and the weather. I guess to want the job one would need to have some interest in science, or just want to help keep track of how our lake is aging. If you are interested, let me know or get in touch with Jamie at 563-2914, or send him an e-mail: jamie.dimick@katv.org
Anyone from a high schooler to a retiree, male or female, who has a boat and is interested, will be welcome to continue this important volunteer job.
