A Reminder from Joe's Pond Association President, Tom Dente:

Hi Jane,

I read this on the WCAX web site and thought it would be a good reminder for Joe Ponders. Always wear your life Jacket, and motorboats must give way to kayaks.

Motorboat driver charged in fatal kayak capsizing

Associated Press - June 10, 2010 7:45 PM ET

BOLTON, N.Y. (AP) - A motorboat driver accused of hitting a kayak, killing the paddler, faces a misdemeanor charge of reckless operation.

Divers found 63-year-old Peter Snyder's body Wednesday evening near the shore of Lake George in Bolton, 60 miles north of Albany. The Troy resident and his wife, Bonita Hagan, were kayaking early Wednesday afternoon when a powerboat apparently caused Snyder's boat to capsize.

Warren County Sheriff Bud York says 73-year-old Donald Peltier of Queensbury faces a maximum sentence of a year in jail for not yielding to the kayaks. Authorities didn't know if Peltier had an attorney yet.

York says Peltier jumped in the water to try to help Snyder. Hagan also tried in vain to rescue her husband.

Police say Snyder and Hagan had life jackets but weren't wearing them.
