Oops!
Fred just told me I'd already posted about the fresh air kids. Sorry about that. I usually delete things like that from my mail after I've posted them and that was still in there this morning, so figured I hadn't done it and didn't take time to check.

It's been a busy day for me. Things are getting organized for Cabot's Old Home Week, which will be "Old Home Weekend" this year, held on August 14th and 15th. Like everything else, it's difficult to find people to work on things, especially during the week, and nobody comes for the whole week now, anyway.

Years ago, when traveling was more difficult and took longer, people came "home" for long periods of time and they were interested in seeing friends and socializing so there were seven days of events scheduled including a parade, one or two plays, band concerts, a baseball game, ice-cream socials and pic
nics and everyone in town turned out for as many of the events as possible. Sunday was the day for the ladies to put on their best bonnets to be seen at church, and after the service the gentlemen would show off their horses and buggies, often challenging neighbors to a friendly horse race. But that doesn't happen any more. This year there will be the Cabot High School Alumni Association meeting Saturday morning, with a tour to all the old school houses still standing - there are about seven of the original 14 left - and a flea market in the afternoon. Sunday, church as usual, with probably a social gathering after the service.

The historical society building will be open on Saturday afternoon, an
d no doubt there will be several people visiting for the day or the weekend, but there won't be the numbers there used to be. Keeping the tradition of Old Home Week alive is still a lot of work, whether for 200 or 50, and my hat is off to those people who continue against all odds.

My part in all of this is minimal. I'll be tour guide on the bus trip to the schools and I am hustling to get as much of the information I've been assembling as possible into shape for presentation in the Historical Society Museum. We always hope there will be lots of visitors.
