I had a call today from a Walden resident asking if we'd heard anything more about the cell tower at the Sousa farm on Cabot Plain. Someone at our May 29th meeting brought up the question, as well, so today we got in touch with the clerk at the Environmental Court and here's what we found out:
There is to be a hearing on June 28th. The hearing is for an apparently new permit request from Cingular Wireless. This is a conference call including representatives of all concerned.
As some of you no doubt know, Unicel was sold to AT&T and apparently Cingular is part of AT&T. This makes me think things are starting from square one, however, there is a trial date set for July 13th and 14th, which if we choose to be optimistic about it could mean the groundwork has been set long ago and the new permit request is only because there's a new owner. The clerk said progress depends on what appeals are filed.
Many people along the Rt. 15 and Rt. 2 corridors of our area would be very happy if cell service were to become available. I guess where there's movement there's hope. We'll try to keep you posted if there is actual progress.
