Beautiful summer day. We had a little rain yesterday - not quite half an inch here. Today the sun was bright here at our house, but when we got to West Danville, there was thick fog and it lasted all the way to St. Johnsbury. The photo on the left is at Point Comfort and on the right just a few yards further on the road as we approached the bridge in W. Danville. Fred had a dental appointment in St. J. and I went along to do a couple of errands. We were back early and stopped at the store to pick up our mail. It was quite busy there and we saw lots of people we knew.
I talked with one of the Walden firemen who had been on the scene when the Michaud barn burned last week. He was telling me that a truck that came after the fire to pick up some of the debris apparently had some live embers sucked into the air cleaner and the owner thought he had it cleaned out but there must have been some left because some time later the truck caught fire and was a total loss.

I hope lots of you fill out the survey for the Cabot Planning Commission I posted a link to a couple days ago. I did it yesterday and it didn't take much time at all, but I thought there were some thoughtful questions on it and it seemed to me the more opinions and answers the commission has, the better decisions they can make about where the town should concentrate effort and tax money in planning for the future. Here it is again, so take a look. The survey is good through the month of June.

I'm sure some of you know some of the history of the Adamant School of Music. I have known about the school and had read the history some time ago, but was surprised when I recently came across a manuscript in the Cabot Historical Society collection written in 1943-4 by Jennie Hill Kimball, called "Facts About Levi Hill." She writes there about the Hill and Kimball families and that Alice Mary Kimball, who was born in Cabot in 1886, and her husband Harry Godfrey, were co-founders with their close friend Edwine Behre, of the famous school of music in Adamant, Vermont. Alice Mary Kimball and her husband were writers, living in New York City at that time, in the 1940's. You may find it interesting to read about this trio, I certainly did, especially now I know the connection to Cabot. Here's the web site of the Adamant Music School - www.adamant.org
In the biography on the Adamant web site it says Alice Mary was born in Woodbury; however, Jennie Hill Kimball states Alice Mary was born in Cabot, in Janet Kimball's house. I'll try to verify that next time I'm at the town offices.
I've transcribed all of Jennie's material and it will be available in our research center at the historical society Main Street building.
As I read about Edwine Behre, I wondered if she might be a distant relative of Ed Behr who publishes "The Art of Eating" in Peacham, Vermont. The spelling of the name is a little different, but still, it is an interesting thought . . . I interviewed Ed some 20 years ago when he first published his newsletter devoted to great food and wine experiences and I was freelancing for the Caledonian Record. He was charming and had a very interesting approach to food, with the sort of independent nature I suspect Edwine had.
