We're having a very busy morning so far. I've talked to any number of reporters, but also have had e-mails and calls from Joe's Ponders who picked Ice-Out times on April 5th. We won't have a winner until all the entries mailed on April 1st are in and logged. Then, as I've said, we have to check carefully and verify before making the announcement. In 2008 we had four winners who had the exact date and time, and that could happen again. Many people watched closely and when our weather took such an unusual warm turn, that sent lots of folks scurrying to select earlier guesses. About all we can tell you now is that the winner will get just about $5,000.

It's been raining quite hard most of the morning. Our temperature is only about 46 degrees, but still, that's warm enough to finish off whatever ice is left out there. We have been waiting for the rain to let up before going down to "rescue" the pallet and flag from the depths. We will probably go this afternoon; the sky is beginning to brighten.

I'm also ready with the newsletter so as soon as we have a winner I'll add that information and JPA members will have their newsletter within a few days.

It's necessary for me to realize that the whole world isn't focused on our Ice-Out Contest at Joe's Pond, and life goes on as usual for most people regardless of the excitement here. So here's a notice I received earlier:
