This is just a quick addition to what I wrote below. While I was fixing supper, Fred went down to check the clock and the flag to be sure everything was ok. When I read his Ice-Out report just now, I knew exactly who "that 175 lb. person" was and why he'd been gone a bit longer than I thought he would be. Below is the photo he took of Homer's deck - from the ice.

The pond looks solid enough, in the picture above, but there were lots of places today looking very dark, so I sure wouldn't trust it. I'm just glad Fred came home dry . . .

It's 42 degrees now, at 10:15 p.m., so I don't think things will freeze up tonight. Tomorrow will be another gloriously warm day and we'll have more pictures as we make the rounds picking up Ice-Out tickets in Cabot, Danville and St. Johnsbury. We're hoping to check out the new bakery in Danville, too . . .

We had a really cold night last night - I had a low of 14.4F and Diane told me there was a lot of ice around the rim of the pond this mornin...
