I'm finally back at my computer. We've experienced summer-like temperatures today, well into the 70's. I've made a couple of slide shows - we've covered a lot of territory today, so have a bunch of pictures to show you. This slide show starts off as we set out to pick up tickets this morning. We went first to Cabot and Harry's Hardware where Walt and Julie Ackermann has done a great job selling tickets for us. We took the Danville Hill Road to get to Rt. 2 and were surprised at how good it is. No mud! Often that is one of the big trouble spots in town come mud season.
We wanted to see how Molly's Pond looks. Traditionally, it goes out just about a week before Joe's. It was hard to tell, but it looked pretty secure - but that was around 9 a.m. I'm sure the ice took a beating during the day with temperatures in the 70's.
Down the road at Joe's Pond, we found a long stretch of open water in the first narrows going into the middle pond. The second narrows going into the first pond was open, but there was a long stretch of ice off the beach area, and more open water by the bridge. When we came back at around 1 o'clock, we could see a big difference. That prompted us to stop and check the flag from Homer's deck, and then take a quick run down Sandy Beach Road to see how things looked by the islands. You'll see that there is open water way past Pearl's Island, and the ice is looking pretty dark. Here are the slides: Morning of 4-2-10
Late this afternoon, Fred and Bill Rossi took deposits to the bank in Danville and then checked the flag on their way home. They found a WCAX-TV satellite truck and a couple other vehicles there, so stopped to investigate. Here's the story on that . . . Investigating Visitors
The story ran tonight on the evening news. They had done an interview with Homer and Margaret Fitts this morning and then went live at news time, putting together the morning interview with commentary and photos at the site. It was partly a work/study thing for a young woman from GQ magazine (she told Bill she is Iranian). Her name is Raha Naddaf, and she was doing an article about WCAX. Fred was happy to see Anson Tebbetts - he was born and raised in Cabot and we know his parents well. Here's a link to the WCAX interview:

You can read the interview or click above Homer and Margaret's picture where it says "Video."
We'll have another ice update for you tomorrow - check home page where conditions will be posted as soon as we have any change. We expect another hot day tomorrow, even warmer than today, so there should be lots of melting going on.
