Another beautiful sugaring day! Last night was in the high teens or 20's, and today the thermometer is already at 35 degrees on my shaded deck. The snow is melting at a gentle rate; it shows about half an inch less each day on my stake, down to 19 inches this morning. We think the frost is coming out of the back roads a little each day, too, but so far it's hard to tell if this will be one of those "mud up to your fanny" years or one that sneaks by with just enough slime to mess up your car.
Liz Randall sent along some pictures their son, Matt took recently. Matt is in a graduate program at UVM. Here is what he wrote:
Here are a few pictures from my spring weather motivated accidental adventure to Stowe. I went down to Waterbury to go ice skating, then stopped at Ben and Jerry's for an ice cream, and decided to take the "scenic route" home, only Rt. 108 is closed at the ski mountain. My adventure led me backroading from Stowe to Johnson.
Here are the photos Matt took along the way: Back Roading in Stowe
Some of you will recognize some of the views - all very typical of that area this time of year. Nice shots, Matt, and thanks to Liz for sharing.
Spring fever seems to be upon lots of us these days. The weather is just about perfect for sugaring, walking, ice fishing, skiing, or whatever you want to do. I will be going to Cabot later today to check on the Ice-Out ticket supply at Harry's Hardware and do a couple other errands, and hope to take some pictures along the way. I'm sure there will be some spring stuff happening. Also, Fred and Billy are doing a recycling run to Hardwick today and Fred will have his camera with him, too. (Yes, we both have cameras . . . when we go in different directions, I take the one that has to be coaxed to stay focused!) So more later.
