I'm ready for snow. Well, not psychologically, but I do have my snow board up and ready. No, I'm not going out on the slopes with a sno-board - it's a different kind of thing altogether. This is for measuring snow depth and the amount of water content. It's all part of the CoCoRaHS thing I've been doing all summer. You see, I have this rain gauge, but starting very soon it'll be useless; so today I put out the winter equipment. I'll still be using the rain gauge to measure water content, but that'll be an indoor thing. I'll have to trudge out to the snowboard to measure any new snow depth and get a sample to measure water content. The picture here shows the setup.

I was pretty sure we were going to get some snow this morning, and I wasn't ready. But it turned out to be rain at least when it got here. When I took this pict
ure it looked pretty white for rain as it progressed out of the hills in Walden. Perhaps it was snow in Walden, no surprise there. For the next several nights we'll have temperatures in the 20's at night and in the 40's during the daytime, so when snow does come, the ground will probably be cold enough so it'll stick.

We went for a short walk this afternoon and the wind was pretty cold. I didn't take my earmuffs - big mistake - so my ears began to ache; the wind does that to me even in just coolish weather. The sun was nice, but now it's dropping behind the hill and the temperature, which has been around 49, will drop drastically, I expect.

We're going to dinner
at Brown's Market Bistro in Groton tonight with Bill and Diane Rossi. They are celebrating an anniversary, and I'm sure the success of Bill's new book, "Around the Pond." We've had pizza from there, and it was very good, so we'll be interested in how dinner will be. It's small and cozy, perfect for a cool fall night like this. I'll have pictures and a report for you tomorrow.
