JPA Members, your spring newsletter is in the mail! Don't just toss it when it arrives in your mailbox. I know you've probably already seen the newsletter here on the web site - in full color - but please at least open the printed version because your remittance envelope for dues and fireworks donation is inside. Dues should be paid before July 1st, otherwise your name will be on the "past due list" and that means I have to begin e-mailing or telephoning you, and sending reminders.
Fred went with me to pick up the newsletters - I think it was on Tuesday. I've been pretty busy since then, not only getting them out, but with a bunch of other stuff, too, so it's hard to remember exactly which day we picked them up. Once again, I turned around to see where Fred was and got my picture taken. I've given up protesting.
Today was a catchup day for me. I tied up loose ends here in the office, made some phone calls, did some baking, and made ice cream. Maple walnut, this time. We got an ice cream freezer a while back - the electric kind, not the old crank type - and to date we've made vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon, and today - my favorite, maple walnut. I used real maple syrup and lightly toasted walnuts, and it was very good. Too good, actually. I'm going to have a hard time keeping away from it. Fred doesn't need to worry about calories like I do, so it's probably better for him to eat it. Making it ourselves, we can control the amount of fat (we use light cream or milk instead of the heavy cream) and sugar. So far, we've had pretty good luck adapting recipes.
Bill and Diane Rossi came for dinner tonight. Diane is getting around much better, but because it's her right knee that had the operation, she won't be able to drive for a while. It's a rainy night, and when Bill and Diane left, we could hear the peepers singing away down in the swamp below us.
Yesterday Fred went with our neighbor and good friend, Elizabeth, in search of a new car for her. Here she is, ready to test drive. Pretty sharp little car - I'm sure she's going to really enjoy it. She had picked this car out and her son, who lives in Alaska, was able to find it on the dealer's web site, but she said she was reluctant to test drive it by herself, so asked Fred to go along. He said it is a really nice car - just right for her.
After they finished at the Ford dealership, they went up to see Ernie a
We have sad news tonight. Garey Larrabee's brother, Jimmy, died unexpectedly on Tuesday. He was 72. I'm sure some of you knew Jimmy. He was often at the store and was often helping out there or helping other people around town. You will find a complete obituary here:
James B. Larrabee
