Another cool day here at Joe's Pond. We're having one of those weak light snow days with faint sunshine and sort of wandering snowflakes. We keep thinking the sun is going to come out and chase away the snow, but it never quite makes it. The good news is that it's 20 degrees ABOVE zero - and there's not much wind so the snow just kinda drifts down lazily, like each flake is looking for just the right place to land.

Fred and I are still struggling with our printer problems. Yesterday we were on the phone with a sales rep from Canon. We had settled on the printer we wanted and been through the whole process of ordering, but then came the news, "That printer is out of stock." HUH? So how long before you have it IN STOCK? Could be a week, could be more, maybe less . . . OK, we'll call back. This morning we went on line and found another Canon. Fred called to order it. Easy. They had all our information from yesterday, quickly got to the final step and - OOPS! OUT OF STOCK! We tried calling Epson yesterday, but were discouraged by the sales rep - one of those situations where the phone connection was bad, we couldn't understand her, she couldn't understand us, so we gave up. You may wonder why we were both on the phone - well, it's a defense mechanism. Last week when talking to a woman at Hewlett Packard, Fred was asked if he was married. When he replied, "Yes, this printer is for my wife," the friendly, helpful advice he'd been getting stopped abruptly, so we figured we should let 'em know up front there are two of us to deal with and there will be no long-range flirtations from India.

Yesterday I got my shingles shot. That was so easy and painless, I am left wondering if I actually got a shot. And it was free! The State of Vermont has clinics from time to time. I had to wait about a month for it, but that was ok. I don't expect to have shingles again, and certainly not right away, but when there's an easy safeguard, why not take it. The serum or whatever they use has to be kept frozen and that makes it difficult for doctors to administer. The clinics make it possible to run people through about every 10 minutes - so there was a pretty steady stream of older folks coming in to the Department of Health at Windhorse Commons - where the department has been for only a few weeks, the nurse told me. It's actually in the old Calderwood Funeral Home buildings. Great old place, now completely renovated and very nice. I've been there when it was a chapel all too many times . . . but I could hardly remember what it used to be like. Speaking of old folks, here's an interesting web site for you. Turn on your speakers and listen to the songs. Click here: Humor I think you'll smile.

Tim's Deli did a great job for Bill and Monika's wedding on Saturday. We've had take-out food from Tim's for a long time, and stopped there for a meal once in a while, and the food has always been great, so we weren't surprised when everything at the reception was delicious. His crew, Barbara and Dave, did a great job setting things up and thanks to them all went like clockwork, right down to cleaning up afterwards, Monika said. I'm putting his card on the web site under "Services." The deli is kind of tucked into a corner at Concord and Railroad Street - right at the intersection.
