The Cabot School Board Meeting scheduled for this evening has been canceled.

Just to update everyone on our day here at Joe's Pond - at our house the thermometer didn't get more than 5 degrees above zero all day, in spite of sunshine. In may have been warmer in the direct sun, but there has also been quite a breeze, so the "feels like" temperature would probably be well below zero. The wind was vicious all night last night. We were glad we had closed off our cat, Woody's kitty door in the basement. I think it's closed for the season - unless we should get a nice January thaw . . . something to look forward to in this kind of weather.

Fred has been working with on-line help desks at Hewlett-Packard, trying to get our newly purchased HP printer up and running. They tell us the problem is in the software, but nobody has been able to offer a solution. I think it's time for this machine to go back to HP. Two days is plenty of time to experiment with solutions that don't work.

By the way, I didn't mention this morning that Bill and Diane Rossi skied at Burke Mountain on opening day, Saturday. Diane said it was a bit icy, but yesterday we got some snow that would probably help - but now it's too darned cold to ski! I haven't been outside all day, nor do I intend to. Winter has started off with a bang.

I didn't really finish what I was writing about this morning - Diane's photo. That's clearly a "sun dog" and I think it's supposed to indicate a storm. I suppose with temperatures as cold as it was this morning it could have just been the rising sun shining on ice crystals over the pond . . . anyway, it is a very nice picture. Thank you, Diane.
