Temps didn't get quite as warm as yesterday, but the sun has been beautiful and the snow is melting.
This morning we found Joe and Pam Hebert, back from Arizona and shoveling to get their car out of storage on W. Shore Rd. - a big job, but they had it well under control and even seemed to be enjoying themselves. They said the road to their place is pretty soft, and some folks are leaving their cars in the village and walking in and out. West Shore Rd. isn't bad at all - the town has raked it at least twice in the past few days, and that helps some to dry it out and fill in ruts. We're hearing from a few people who plan to head back to the pond within a couple of weeks, so things will begin to take shape soon.
Fred had the following from Evelyn Richer today:
Hi Fred… what a difference a day makes!! Thought you might like to see… the open water is as far down as our dock area and creeping along fairly fast… the shoreline is also opening up a bit… after a few more days when the main pond opens a bit (as far as the little island) then the ice flotillas begin to break up and float on out of here… we will see a clear water cove in no time…(well, with this rain coming and possibly snow… who knows… my guess is by the end of next week we will be clear here) . Evelyn
We know the storms heading our way will probably bring a little new snow, but it will hopefully not amount to much, and the snowplows and snow blowers can remain retired for this year. On top of muddy roads, even an inch or so of snow could be troublesome unless the temperatures drop enough to freeze the muck before the snow covers it. Could be an interesting weekend.
