Most of us are aware it is very difficult to keep our small community churches up and running. The United Church of Cabot is not only a place of worship, weddings and funerals, it is also the center of the community, the place where Seniors meet, organizations hold meetings and fund raisers, and a welcoming space for friends to socialize. The building has had many improvements over the years. The original structure dates to 1806 when it was the “center meeting house” at the geographic center of town. It was disassembled and moved down the hill in 1826 to a spot about where the Cabot School is now. In 1849, it was again torn down and rebuilt at its present location. The church had been a simple one-story structure until 1872, when it was raised up and the vestry was built underneath. At one time there were five churches in the Town of Cabot, now all but this one have either been torn down or abandoned.

Supporting the church is a huge financial burden for a small town – repairs, maintenance, and utilities all continue to increase while membership generally decreases - but church-goers and non-members alike are working hard to be sure the United Church of Cabot continues to serve as a gathering place and source of strength by its presence. You can help by contributing articles for the auction, and mark your calendars to attend the event on July 14, 2007.

You are invited to participate in regular services and/or activities at this beautiful and historic church. You will be warmly welcomed.
