More Snow! I thought you might like to see what our world at Joe's Pond looked like today - and will probably continue to look like for the next week or so. Fred was out early to get the snow blowing done in our driveway and a couple of our neighbor's. He took several pictures, and so did I. We then went into St. Johnsbury to grocery shop, but we had to wait for West Shore Road to be plowed. Well, we didn't actually have to wait, we probably could have made it, but today's snow was the sort that packs under your tires and turns to something more slippery than ice - perhaps because of warmer temperatures - but why take unnecessary chances? There was a car in the ditch on Sandy Beach Road, and in the newspapers, pictures of cars that had gone off the roads last night. We had no problems, but in town folks were trying to clear paths and sidewalks, and again, slush everywhere. The snow "showers" continued all day, sometimes with sunshine, sometimes turning the sky gray with clouds of snow. In West Danville, on our way home, the wind was whipping snow off the trees creating whiteouts across the road. No surprise there, the wind always blows in West Danville. I took more pictures. It's really very beautiful with the mantles of snow on the big evergreen trees. Even though the banks of snow seem to threaten us with unrelenting winter, we all know their time is measured and in another month they'll be gone. I received some interesting e-mails today, too. I want to share some with you.

In case you missed it, there was a message in response to one of my posts: Morgan Brown (no relation) wrote: Thus far during 2007 we received what became known as the "Valentines Blizzard" in mid-February, then last month what became known by some as the "St. Patrick's Day Blizzard". Although it did not land on the exact day, would it not be close enough that this most recent blizzard to hit the region could become known -- at least by some --as the April 2007 Nor'-*Easter*?

Then there was the e-mail today from Bryce Montgomery - something forwarded to him:

The famous Olympic skier Picabo Street(pronounced Pee-Ka-Boo) is not just an athlete...she is now a nurse currently working at a the Intensive Care Unit of a large metropolitan hospital. She is not permitted to answer the hospital telephones any longer. It caused too much confusion when she would answer the phone and say..."Picabo, I.C.U."

I received this from Manuel "Chico" Carcoba who is presently slaving away entering all the Ice-Out tickets into his computer data base. We've been feeling sorry for him - so much work, so many hours at the computer . . . turns out he LIKES IT!

AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF ENTERING TICKETS INTO COMPUTER DATA BASE,I FEEL LIKE I KNOW THE NAMES ON THE TICKETS AS WELL AS ANY OF MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY.I SEE THE SAME NAMES AND MISS A FEW WHO I KNOW ARE NO LONGER WITH US.SOME I KNOW; EXAMPLE, FROM YRS AGO: BRUCE MOLINAROLI,AND TOO MANY TO LIST. AM SO USED TO THE WRITING ON SOME,THAT I KNOW WHO WROTE THEM IN THIER KIDS NAMES AND ETC. ANYWAYS I AM STILL HAVING FUN.LIKE A REUNION OF OLD FRIENDS. CHICO

No more sympathy from here, Chico - we're just going to keep on sending you tickets. They must be nearly all in although with entries coming from across the nation, and various weather delays, etc., there are still a few straggling in. We should have a count of total tickets sold fairly soon, though.

And then, late this afternoon, a message from Tucky Sancibrian:
I can't remember if I told you, but some months ago I wrote and asked a friend of mine about her Mom's camp - it is the one that is now owned by Pam Buttura (I think married name Hebert) - she bought it from the Estate of Jean Perantoni - she was married to an Attilio Perantoni (aka "AP") he passed away and she married Jim Rossi from Barre. He died while hunting one deer season and then she was there until she became ill and died also. Anyway - Marilyn (her daughter) told me that AP originally bought that camp from a Mr. Barber from Montpelier and he was from the family of Barber & Lanier Funeral Home.....just a bit of history on that camp if you did not have it.

I'll add the above to my collection of history items about Joe's Pond. It's always nice to get messages from you, and thanks to all who e-mail me with them. I need to begin planning for Easter, so I may not post anything tomorrow. Fred and I wish everyone a happy, safe Easter. If it isn't snowing too hard on Easter morning, perhaps we can record the sunrise over Joe's Pond for you all to see.

Another Adventure

This week turned out to be a doozie for me. I had anticipated going for a follow-up on my knee on Monday, but instead ended up in the ER at ...
